Each linocut print is made by hand rolling rubber based ink onto a linocut mould, then feeding this along with the papers to receive the image through a hand wheel operated press. Prints with two colours are produced by chine colle where a sheet of thin paper is prepared and carefully applied to become part of the print. The linocut mould is hand carved and Marcella has to think in the negative both in terms of the final colour and the print's orientation. Papers are selected specifically for lino cut and chine colle and typically sourced from Italy and Japan. Each final print has subtle differences due to the finesse applied to each.
